Mazor Robotics is a company founded by Technion Prof. Moshe Shoham, of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This company has innovated the art of spinal surgery through the development of robotics guidance systems. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Mazor's "Renaissance" robotic surgery system for brain surgery as well:
In the case of spinal surgery: A miniature robot is affixed to the patient’s bones, enabling highly accurate, minimally invasive treatments, with better outcomes than with conventional surgical techniques (surgeon’s free-hand): Zero cases of permanent nerve damage, and minimized surgical trauma. Prof. Shoham has presented his innovations to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu twice in the past few months, when the PM visited the Technion.

CITI-SENSE – A Europe-Wide Project Designed to Increase Public Participation and Awareness to Air Pollution – was Launched. Haifa is One of Nine Cities Participating in the Project Israel is represented by the Technion and by the startup AirBase; the total budget of the project is nearly 12 million euros and around 30 research groups and commercial companies from 20 countries are participating in it
This year the Israeli National Union of University Students sent a delegation to Poland that included for the first time an Israeli university president. Technion President, Prof. Peretz Lavie and his wife Dr. Lena Lavie accompanied the students to Auschwitz-Birkenau for the last three days of the students’ week-long visit.
