"Business Insider" has ranked the Technion as #25 among the world's best engineering schools.

Mazor Robotics is a company founded by Technion Prof. Moshe Shoham, of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This company has innovated the art of spinal surgery through the development of robotics guidance systems. Now, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Mazor's "Renaissance" robotic surgery system for brain surgery as well:

In the case of spinal surgery: A miniature robot is affixed to the patient’s bones, enabling highly accurate, minimally invasive treatments, with better outcomes than with conventional surgical techniques (surgeon’s free-hand): Zero cases of permanent nerve damage, and minimized surgical trauma. This system has already saved hundreds of people from nerve damage and paralysis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-eo6Bupz9w

Prof. Shoham has presented his innovations to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu twice in the past few months, when the PM visited the Technion.

Solar Power in the Dark is an English language interview clip with Prof. Avner Rothschild (Materials Engineering and Science) about his lab team's new breakthrough in solar fuels.

Using the power of the sun and ultrathin films of iron oxide (commonly known as rust), the researchers have found a novel way to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The breakthrough, published this week in Nature Materials, could lead to less expensive, more efficient ways to store solar energy in the form of hydrogen-based fuels.

This year the Israeli National Union of University Students sent a delegation to Poland that included for the first time an Israeli university president. Technion President, Prof. Peretz Lavie and his wife Dr. Lena Lavie accompanied the students to Auschwitz-Birkenau for the last three days of the students’ week-long visit.

The Technion’s Professor Dan Shechtman will be to London next Monday, 19 November

Not only is he the winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, not  only did he have to take on the entire chemistry academic  establishment as it poured scorn on his findings, but the Financial Times ( http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/0cb59016-29cb-11e2-9a46-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2CUWzfKOV) tells us how he was also instrumental in Israel’s  transformation into the start-up nation.
